"Cheaper Medicines Law" Not Abided by some Drug Stores

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has implemented the Cheaper Medicines Law last August 15, 2009. The medicines for treatment of the diseases that were part of the price cut are the ff:
  • Diabetes
  • Peptic Ulcer
  • Hypertension
  • Tuberculosis
  • Asthma
  • Lupus
  • HIV - AIDS
To make sure that the implementation of such law will be followed, the president told the DOH Secretary, Fransisco Duque to check the prices of medicines in some of the drug stores in Metro Manila. They found out that one drug store violated the law. Under the law, if a drug store does not abide the law, the store will be fined from Php50,000 - Php5,000,000 or remove their business licensure. The government will give chance to small drug stores to lower their prices till next month.

I think that the law implemented by the government was a law that could help the nation against poverty because everybody gets sick and medicines are one of the solutions to it. But I fear it's disadvantage, that drugstores or drug manufacturers will close their business due to low price and high demand. But for now it's a good thing to have this law implemented.
